Plant Trees and Grow Peace

2004 Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai speaks of how powerful community action can be in effectively restoring the land and the well-being of people, when scarcity of water, deforestation and subsequent desertification have become all too commonplace. Through the educational and environmental work of her organization, the Green Belt Movement, democracy was restored to Kenya in 2002, thus demonstrating the immutable link between the sustainable management of natural resources and sound democratic government.
